Construction Ltd. and Canada PEI Affordable Housing Program Agreement have
worked together to make Independence Place a reality. The guidelines set
by Canada PEI Affordable Housing Program are as follows:
-
A
two bedroom unit must have 2 people in it. A two bedroom unit
cannot be rented to 1 person only.
-
These
units shall be rented to low to moderate household incomes as defined by
PEIHC. A person in a one bedroom unit cannot have an annual income that
exceeds $15,944. A couple cannot have an annual income that exceeds
$31,887. For further information on maximum income levels for families
please contact Corinna at 436-8271.
-
The
landlord must confirm that all tenants income does not exceed the above
amounts. This means once a year tenants must provide the landlord with
written documentation showing that their income still meets the above
guidelines. This will be completely CONFIDENTIAL. If
the tenants annual income rises above the moderate income levels set out
above, the tenant will no longer be eligible to rent an affordable
housing unit.
-
A
one bedroom unit shall rent for $500. including heat with the tenant
paying for their own electricity.
-
A two
bedroom unit shall rent for $650. including heat with the tenant paying
for their own electricity.
-
There
will be no rent increases until at least one year. The landlord has
the option after one year to follow PEIHC guidelines for rent increases.
If the rents were to increase it would be a slight increase to
cover costs of inflation and will
not exceed those set by the Island Regulatory and Appeals
Commission. (IRAC)
-
THE
LANDLORD AGREES TO GIVE PRIORITY TO INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO
MOST NEED THESE UNITS.
